Ashley Tisdale first emerged in Hollywood as a Disney Channel star, thanks to “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” and the “High School Musical” franchise. Now, the 26-year-old actress and singer is branching out, producing shows through her Blondie Girl Productions and taking over Anna Faris’ lead role in “Scary Movie 5”.

The Weinstein company sent out a press release earlier this month, naming Ashley as one of the leads of the fifth installment. When I saw Ashley at the premiere of Bravo’s “Miss Advised” – which she executively produced – I had to ask her about her highly anticipated role!

“Of course I’m excited,” Ashley tells me. “I’m a big fan of the franchise and I’m a big fan of Anna Faris, so to step in her shoes and take over is like, pretty awesome.”

Ashley is not the only newcomer to the franchise. Malcolm Lee is hired to direct, and David Zucker, who directed the last two, will be co-writing and producing.

“I love physical comedies so I’m super stoked!” Ashley continues.

Although Anna is not returning for the fifth movie, I think it’s safe to say Ashley is in good hands! The last Scary Movie film, which came out in 2006, was a big hit at the box office, pulling in $178 million globally on a $45 million budget. It’s been six years and the studio is so ready for another one.

The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on January 11, 2013.
